Over the summer Matt Berninger dropped the solo track "Martini Me Fatso," a standout from the long shadow of last year’s album "Get Sunk." Now he follows that with the unexpected EP "Type It Up," which gathers that song along with new originals and two well‑known covers, rounding out the current era of his work. The release arrives digitally now and will be available on physical formats through Concord on December 4.
The EP "Type It Up" includes "Martini Me Fatso," the fresh originals "Type It Up" and "Ask For Water," plus covers of New Order’s "Blue Monday" and the Velvet Underground’s "Who Loves The Sun." The video for "Ask For Water" even features a lyric about eating stickers off apples.
Berninger says the songs grew out of the energy of the Get Sunk tour, where he was tweaking lyrics on the road and getting real‑time reactions from fans. The chorus of "Type It Up"—originally titled "Black Letter Font"—was swapped after listeners kept mishearing the line "That would look good in a black letter font" as "I would look good in a black leather thong." He says he prefers a black linen suit.
"Type It Up" is out now digitally and hits stores physically on Concord on December 4. The vinyl version adds an acoustic rendition of "Martini Me Fatso." Fans can order the record via Berninger’s Bandcamp page.
