The highly anticipated concert by Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda at AT&T Stadium near Dallas was abruptly cancelled. The cancellation was announced on Friday by Álvarez, who cited the unexpected revocation of his visa as the reason. Despite the stage being fully set up and part of the production team already in Texas preparing for the event, the show had to be called off.
In a heartfelt video message, Álvarez expressed his regret, stating, “Sadly, the event will not go on as planned due to our work visa being cancelled. It is not possible for us to go to the United States and fulfill our show promise with all of you. It’s something out of our control. That’s the information I have, and it hurts… It’s an event that was completely sold out.”
Álvarez reassured fans that their tickets would remain valid for a rescheduled date, and refunds would be available upon request. He apologized for the inconvenience and thanked his fans for their understanding.
This is not the first time Álvarez has faced visa issues. In 2017, his U.S. work visa was revoked following allegations by the U.S. Treasury Department that he had ties to a drug trafficking organization. Álvarez denied these allegations, stating that his connection was limited to a real estate purchase. He was later removed from the sanctions list in 2022 and regained his visa.
Earlier this year, Álvarez made a triumphant return to the United States with a trio of sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, marking his first performance in the country after nearly eight years.
The cancellation of Álvarez's show comes amidst growing concerns about visa issues affecting the music industry. Recently, the Michelada Fest in Chicago was also cancelled due to similar uncertainties. Festival promoters have expressed frustration, noting that the uncertainty is affecting ticket sales and event planning.
