A funeral service for KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was conducted on Wednesday at a cemetery in his childhood Bronx neighborhood. The day prior, a memorial service was held in Yonkers.
Attending the private memorial service were fellow original KISS members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, as reported by SiriusXM personality and long-time friend of Ace, Eddie Trunk.
In an Instagram post, Trunk mentioned he had received approval from Frehley's family to organize a future tribute event in honor of the late guitarist. He stated:
“Ace Frehley has now been laid to rest in Bronx NY. It has been an emotional couple of days to say the least saying farewell to a rock icon and long time friend. All of the services went as well as they could and were attended by a small group of family and close friends, including the 3 surviving original members of KISS. It was an honor to be invited to attend and participate and saw some old friends and made some new ones celebrating Ace. His family did give me the okay to pursue a tribute show / fan celebration at some point. That’s something I feel, and many others feel, is deserved and should happen.”
Frehley, aged 74, passed away last Thursday after experiencing a brain bleed resulting from a recent fall at his studio.
Earlier this month, the iconic rock musician had canceled all his remaining tour dates, though the seriousness of his health issue was not disclosed at that time. It was later revealed that the fall proved fatal, with him succumbing to his injuries on October 16th.
Tributes have been shared from across the music and rock community since Frehley's death was announced. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley issued a joint statement expressing their sorrow:
“We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy. Our thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.”
