Chappell Roan will have the honor of inducting Cyndi Lauper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the upcoming ceremony next month.
“She has inspired me with her fashion and her hair, and of course, her makeup, her music,” Roan shared in a video announcement regarding her participation. “I actually auditioned with ‘True Colors’ for America’s Got Talent when I was 13. I didn’t make it, but the song is still incredible. I’m so excited, thank you for having me.”
Lauper has reciprocated the admiration for Roan. In the 2024 documentary Let The Canary Sing, she expressed her reaction to hearing the “Pink Pony Club” singer for the first time: “Such dusky, yearning keyboard pop. Wow, born in 1998, she’s even younger than my son! And that hair! That kind of reminds me of what I did on the blues record, Memphis Blues…. Just incredible!”
Joining Lauper in this year's induction class are The White Stripes, OutKast, Soundgarden, Warren Zevon, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, Bad Company, Salt-N-Pepa, and Carole Kaye. The induction ceremony on November 8th is set to feature a diverse lineup of performers and presenters, including Olivia Rodrigo, Elton John, David Letterman, Iggy Pop, Killer Mike, Doja Cat, Beck, Flea, Missy Elliott, Brandi Carlile, Questlove, Twenty One Pilots, J.I.D, Maxwell, RAYE, Teddy Swims, Taylor Momsen, and Sleepy Brown.
